2021

The following project is a collaboration between myself and David Goodsell, structural biologist at Scripps Research in San Diego, California.

Create a scientifically accurate animation for students to use as a study tool explaining how photosynthesis works.

Challenge

I created an animation explaining how the electron transport chain works, a key process in photosynthesis to help students learn.

Solution

Results

Students utilizing PDB 101, the worlds largest database for online student science learning, watch thge video for free as a study tool.

Title Sequence

Inspired by cinematic film title sequences, the intro for Photosynthesis served as a visual anchor, immersing viewers in one of the world’s greatest discoveries.

3D Stills

An exploration of diversity of plants, seeds, and the beauty of nature itself.

Storyboards

Prior to any animating occurred, the storyboards were explored and researched to find the most optimal way of explaining the electron transport chain.

Posters

Converting light into energy while you sleep.

Music

I scored original music after the film was complete.

Behind The Scenes

After David sent me his concepts for the proteins in the electron transport chain, I scripted, storyboarded, animated, scored the entire video.

I used Cinema 4D, Octane Render Engine, Cubase, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Da Vinci to bring it all together.
